A bettor earned a substantial sum by predicting the removal of Nicolás Maduro just before it was publicly declared, leading to inquiries about the possibility of profiting from inside knowledge of the event.

Sudden Shift in Predictions

Wagers on Polymarket, a blockchain-based service, that the leader would be no longer in control by the month's conclusion increased in the time leading up to Donald Trump stated on Saturday that Maduro had been taken into custody.

One account, which joined the platform recently and took four positions, all on political events in Venezuela, profited a total of $436K from a initial bet of over $32,000.

"That trade has all the hallmarks of a trade based on non-public details," stated Dennis Kelleher.

Trading on insider information is against the law in the traditional financial markets, but there are fewer regulations in the prediction market space.

A company executive for a competing service said their site "explicitly prohibits such activities of any form."
