British tennis star Emma Raducanu ends this year's campaign and plans to retain coach through next year.
The British player advanced to round three in three out of four Grand Slam events this year.
The British tennis star Emma Raducanu will not compete in her remaining competitions of the year because of a medical condition she has been fighting over the past 10 days.
Raducanu, aged 22 was scheduled to compete in events in Asia but opted to return home to rest and recuperate before starting plans for the 2026 season.
These plans will include coach Francisco Roig, as they have decided to continue collaborating for the upcoming season.
She had her blood pressure taken during her first-round match against Ann Li in Wuhan and stopped playing when losing 6-1 4-1 on an oppressively humid day.
Another medical visit was necessary a doctor's assessment at the Ningbo Open this week, where she lost in three sets to Chinese wildcard Zhu Lin in the opening round.
Her movement was with clear difficulty in the final set against Zhu owing to the lower back problem that has troubled her on several occasions in 2025.
These outcomes meant an encouraging season, in which Raducanu rose into the international top 30 after a long gap since her previous ranking, finished with a trio of defeats.
Raducanu had three match points prior to falling to American player Jessica Pegula in the third stage in Beijing last month.
The player achieved twenty-eight matches during 2025 and reached the semi-finals in the Washington tournament, but her most impressive week was at the Miami event in March.
The British number one reached the quarter-finals of this WTA 1000 tournament, defeating eighth seed Emma Navarro en route then falling in three sets to fourth-ranked Pegula.
She was coached by trainer Mark Petchey from the Miami event through Wimbledon, with Francisco Roig stepping in in time for the US Open.
The original arrangement with the former trainer of Nadal was for the remainder of the year but the partnership will continue, with a training session scheduled late this year.
Raducanu told that the trial session with Roig post-Wimbledon was like a "secret mission" as they tried to keep the meeting secret.
She came very close to overcoming Sabalenka, the world number one at their first tournament together in August's Cincinnati tournament.
The coach also accompanied Raducanu in New York, where she reached the third round then falling to Elena Rybakina, the 2022 Wimbledon winner.
