England to Begin Euro 2028 Campaign at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium
The England national team will initiate their 2028 European Championship adventure at the Manchester City’s stadium, assuming they achieve the anticipated passage for a tournament staged throughout the bulk of Britain and the Republic of Ireland.
Manchester City’s home ground has not staged an English men’s fixture since May 2016, when the Turkish team were overcome 2-1 in a friendly, but is almost certain to host the England side for their first match on June 10, 2028.
The team are scheduled to play their last two group stage games at the national stadium, but, should they win Group B, their last-16 tie would be held at the Newcastle stadium. Securing the runner-up spot would mean beginning the playoffs at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Championship Launch and Demonstration
The event was inaugurated at an ceremony in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday night. Key representatives from the tournament organizers and the host FAs were confronted as they approached the location by about 50 activists, who urged Israel’s national side to be kicked out from the sport because of the Gaza crisis.
Banners were displayed with slogans reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators shouted: “Kick Israel out.”
Event Schedule
The inaugural fixture of Euro 2028 will be played at the Principality Stadium in the Welsh capital, on June 9, 2028, a game that will include Wales if they secure a place.
The national stadium will host the two semi-final matches and the title decider, which will be staged on a Sunday in July 2028 with a kick-off time at late afternoon.
It is expected that an earlier start, which will also be implemented for Champions League finals from next season, will cater to families and help connect with a wider spectrum of fans.
Qualifying Teams
The Republic of Ireland are set to play their first game at the Dublin stadium and the Tartan Army would play similarly at Hampden Park.
The national sides of all four hosts will participate in the preliminary stage; two reserved places will be set aside for any that do not reach the finals through the standard process.
Locations and Elimination Phase
Aston Villa’s stadium and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium finalize the nine tournament locations. Every stadium will hold at least one knockout match, with the quarter-finals played at each country’s national stadium.
The qualifying draw will be staged in the Northern Irish capital, which was excluded as a tournament location last year when it emerged Casement Park could not be upgraded in time, on 6 December 2026.
