Vince Gilligan Shares He Has an Idea of How Pluribus Might Finish... Currently.

The creative mastermind did not foresee that Pluribus would turn into a cultural phenomenon. “The viewers have been incredible,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

As the debut season of the popular sci-fi show reaching its finale—and Season 2 greenlit and underway—the writers' room recently discussed the viewer reception and whether it will influence the narrative path of Pluribus.

Regarding the Incredible Viewer Reception

One could easily to get sidetracked by the constant speculation and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. The creator is striving to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like force fed something incredibly sweet and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's the greatest thing, but I learn of it from others, and that's on purpose. Never in my life Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. Not because I don't care. It's a rabbit hole I know I would get lost in and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

Regardless of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s it's impossible to ignore the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We don't try to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not changed by what people are saying.”

“Better to keep our heads down and working,” he chimes in.

The Big Question: Has Vince Gilligan Have a Plan for the Ending of Pluribus?

Considering Gilligan and his team aren’t being guided by audience theories, does that mean they have already decided how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… in a way.

“There are some potential directions about the ultimate destination,” he states. “however, we remain prepared to abandon a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. That has held us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Alternatively, if plans fall through, Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to fall back on.

“I keep pitching that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and we're in there,” he says humorously, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Of course, why mess with the legendary finales?

“I'd love for Carol to wake up in bed with Bob Newhart there,” he jokes.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV.
