NFL 2025 season: Week six

Live coverage features live text for the weekend matchups on multiple platforms, beginning with the Broncos-Jets clash at Tottenham (from 14:00 BST). Also, audio coverage is available on select stations covering a separate game (beginning at 9 PM BST).

We're in the sixth week of the NFL season and after last week's talk regarding two top teams being possible championship contenders, they both lost their perfect starts.

Striking during those contests was the number of penalties both conceded. Philadelphia committed them at crucial times so they essentially defeated themselves having led by two touchdowns going into the final quarter versus the Denver Broncos, who play overseas this weekend.

But it proved good to see how Denver's QB the rookie managed to have the shortfall and then lead three successful possessions in three attempts during the final period, to win the game 21-17.

Denver boast the defensive player of the year in CB Pat Surtain II. They are number one in red zone defence, while Philadelphia are number one in red zone offence, and the Broncos prevailed in that contest.

They executed the Eagles' number in terms of simulated pressure. They weren't necessarily rushing more than four pass rushers but they could plug two LBs in the 'A' gap before drop them out and send a slot defender from the outside.

Early on of the season, it was noted during a show that Denver might emerge as this season's dark horses. They ended the previous year strongly then excelled in continuing that momentum.

Are the Denver Broncos this season's underdog story?

New TE their tight end has stepped up big while recent running back JK Dobbins is a guy the team trusts. He now ranks 5th league-wide in ground gains (402) and tied for fourth for rushing touchdowns (4).

I love that the coach Sean Payton has "RUN IT!" prominently of his playcall sheet.

That shows how Denver represent a team aiming to run first, since one can do a lot based on that approach. It slows down the pass rush and maintains in favourable down and distances.

It's also helped QB the young passer, who came into the league as a first-round selection last year, passing for 29 TDs – second only to Justin Herbert in rookie records (31 back in 2020).

Josh Allen and Herbert possess powerful arms to pass all over, however they don't move in the same way as Nix. He boasts exceptional arm talent, which is different, plus he's so athletic.

His strengths include his movement, the capacity to throw on the run, as well as using varied release points to deliver the pass when he rolls out of the pocket, the bootlegs. He can deliver precision throws across the middle and past defenders.

For a young quarterback, at 25, he displays great poise under pressure and isn't bothered by the blitz. He aims to evade being tackled as much as possible and is able throw under pressure. He has sharp intelligence and is quick to decide.

If you constantly rush it consumes the clock and forces the opponent to be on the field extended periods, and when you have an athletic quarterback the defence has to defend the field vertically and horizontally. This proves exhausting.

The quarterback has bitten back at Payton on the sideline sometimes and I think Payton appreciates that fire, seeing him as a fierce rival. I think it's exciting for the coach to have a rookie QB that is similar to moldable clay. He can really develop him how he wants to build it. I think it's a unique opportunity for him.

Payton has won a Super Bowl and has surpassed a legend in all-time victories (173 - tied 14th overall). He has witnessed it all. In my opinion the achievements Denver are experiencing offensively is largely due to his leadership, his schemes, his situational awareness – and the combination with the QB aids shape him what he is.

There's no better a more qualified person guiding you, to assist you through some of the tougher situations and build confidence.

I believe in Denver's defence, in the QB's grit and calm. Yet is the team strong enough to face a top squad at its best? Since that was not a Super Bowl performance from Philadelphia last Sunday.

Currently, it's unlikely Denver are incredible. They're performing above average, which is a solid position to hold their division. All they need to do to continue this path.

They excel at leaning into their forte, that is the ground game, and that's precisely what they must do against the New York Jets in London. It's going to be the JK Dobbins show, essentially.

New York have allowed 140 yards on the ground per game (among the worst), five rushing touchdowns so far (10th worst), and they are the sole squad yet to win a game.

Since the NFL started recording turnovers in 1933, the Jets are also the inaugural squad to be without a single takeaway in five outings, this is surprising when you think that their new coach was previously a defensive coach with another team.

Patrick Mahomes says Kansas City are off to a poor start after Monday's defeat by the Jaguars.

After the upcoming matchup, the Broncos face a manageable slate until their bye (in week 12) - the New York Giants, the Cowboys, Houston Texans plus the Raiders before the Chiefs.

Looking at the AFC West, the Chiefs hold a losing record and the Broncos are even with the Chargers on 3-2 meaning they could make a run at leading the West.

This hinges upon which form of the Chiefs they face because the Broncos {beat|def
